Why choose us...

Consumer Users

Orbital has invested extensive research and development into providing a tracking solution that doesn’t tie you down with long term contracts and expensive subscriptions. YouTrack hardware and software is designed and developed in-house, this gives us greater control of costs and flexibility to design a system that meets all your needs. More than just a black box waiting to be stolen, YouTrack is much more and has a host of features that can be used in everyday use.

If you’re searching for the right partner to provide a GPS tracking system for your family or workforce, the first thing to realise is: it’s not just about the technology. The tools most tracking companies use to provide their services are essentially the same - a GPS receiver unit to provide location information from the satellites, road maps (accessible via software or the web) and wireless/Internet services to transmit and deliver vehicle activity information.

Questions to ask when you are looking for a tracking solution:

1. Advertised “pence per day” looks good but how long is the contract term?

Answer: In most cases the “pence per day” is over 60 month (5 year lease), and then if you don’t remember to cancel in writing you will continue to pay. There may also be added costs for communication charges or for fitting. Orbital: Has a 36 month lease (3 years) with no upfront costs, and we will inform you when the term has finished. The price quoted does include all fitting and communication costs for the 36 month term.

2. What happens at the end of this contract lease term?

Answer: In some cases you will have to commit to another lease term and if you are not willing to do that, then the equipment is de-installed, so you see nothing for your money. Orbital: At the end of the 36 months you pay 1 more monthly instalment (equal to that you are currently paying) and the equipment is owned by you.

3. What are the running costs per vehicle after the term?

Answer: Running costs are normally deemed as communication costs (GPRS Network, i.e. Vodafone, Orange etc) from the tracking unit over the network to the server, mapping license per vehicle etc. These can vary from £15.99 to £9.99 per vehicle per month and can also be depended on the log interval of the vehicle. Orbital: Has a fixed cost of only £47 per vehicle per year with a 2 minute log interval, this includes all communication charges, email alerts and licensing (except SMS messages).

4. Can I transfer the tracking units if I sell/exchange my vehicle?

Answer: Most tracking companies (but not all) will allow a tracking system to be de-installed from one vehicle and installed into another, this will incur a cost for an engineer to visit and carry out the work, which must be done in one site visit. Orbital: We are no different and a cost will be raised if you want us to carry out the work, however: we will carry out installation/de-installation training on our initial visit when we install the system, free of charge. This gives you the flexibility to change a unit from one vehicle to another without the added cost.

5. Who manufactures the tracking system or are they a 3rd party reseller, does this have implications on warranty?

Answer: You may see a lot of tracking systems on the market; however the majority are a re-seller of another system. This may have implications if a warranty issue arises and who you have to deal with to get help.
